How to Choose the Right Sewing Fabric
When deciding what to use for a particular sewing project, the right fabric is essential, and there are so many different types, colors, and styles that making a choice can be very difficult. However, there is no reason that a good choice cannot be made if care and thought are put into the decision.
When choosing sewing fabric, the pattern that is being used is often very helpful, since it usually makes recommendations as to what kind of sewing fabric would be the best one for that particular garment or creation. Despite this, however, some people make things that do not have patterns and therefore they do not have the recommendations for sewing fabric. When this is the case, the person must simply choose what they will use for their sewing fabric, and problems can arise from this as well.
Choosing Sewing Fabric without a Pattern
When someone is working on a project that does not have a pattern choosing the proper sewing fabric can be very difficult. Deciding on a color is not a real issue, because that is something that belongs specifically to each person and his or her opinion of what color he or she will like the best and will look the best for the specific garment or item that is being made.
In addition to the color, however, the type of fabric is very significant to most individuals. Some fabrics are heavy, while others are light, but this is not the only concern. Another concern is how much stretch or ‘give’ the fabric has, as the application that the fabric will be used for can be greatly affected by the stretching ability that the sewing fabric has.
Where to Go to Choose a Sewing Fabric
There are many different stores an individual can explore in order to choose a sewing fabric, and what is being created will give the person a good idea of where the fabric search should begin. Some individuals will start their search in thrift stores and at yard sales because there are many good bargains that can be found there, but this sewing fabric is usually older and often does not reflect the latest styles.
Those that need something more fashionable but that do not want to spend a great deal of money will more likely be interested in the discount stores, and those that are very fashionable and are not concerned about finances will go to the more up-scale fabric stores in order to purchase their sewing fabric.
