The brand name Janome was established as an official trademark in 1935. The word Janome means “eye of the snake� in Japanese. In 1990, the Memory Craft 8000 was introduced by Janome onto the market, and was the first home-use computer sewing machine with embroidery functions to be released in the world. This advancement in Janome technology made all sewing machine users’ dreams come true by the introduction of this machine, which opened up a whole new sewing machine market in hobby use.

By the year 2000, Janome had caught on to the use of the PC and the USB cable connection, a pioneer in the sewing machine market. They introduced the Memory Craft 10000, a sewing machine that could be connected to a PC via a USB cable, which created yet another jump and another realm of possibilities for users.

Janome’s advancements using the PC were again brought forward in 2005, when two versatile Janome sewing machines were released onto the market - the MC11000 and the MC6600P. Both of these machines were produced with a wider arm space, making it easier and more versatile for users. The MC 11000 was the first embroidery machine to be equipped with an industrial-grade rolling linear motion guide and the adjustable I-Height LCD screen, and the MC6600P professional-grade computerized sewing machine was the first sewing machine to incorporate the Acufeed Layered Fabric Feeding System at that time.
